The National Testing Agency is conducting JEE Main 2026 Session 1 on 24 January 2026, marking the fourth day of examinations for engineering aspirants. The test is being held in computer-based test (CBT) mode across centres nationwide, with two shifts scheduled each day. According to official updates, the examination process has been progressing smoothly, with strong candidate participation recorded during the initial days.

 

JEE Main 2026 Exam Schedule and Shifts

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 is being conducted on multiple dates in January for different programmes. Candidates are appearing for the exam in two daily shifts, following the standard NTA schedule. The key schedule details are as follows:

  • Morning shift: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Afternoon shift: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

The BE/BTech papers are scheduled on 21, 22, 23, 24, and 28 January 2026, while the BArch and BPlanning examinations will be conducted on 29 January 2026.

 

Attendance Update from NTA

NTA has reported high turnout during the opening days of the examination. On 21 January and 22 January 2026, the attendance rate crossed 95%, indicating robust participation from registered candidates. The agency has stated that exam operations, including entry procedures and test administration, were completed as planned on these dates.

 

JEE Main 2026 Session Structure

JEE Main 2026 is being conducted in two sessions during the year. The first session is underway in January, while the second session is scheduled to be held in April 2026. This dual-session format allows candidates to improve scores by appearing in more than one attempt, with the best score considered for ranking purposes.

 

Important Instructions for Candidates

Candidates appearing for upcoming shifts are required to strictly follow the guidelines issued by NTA. Before reaching the centre, candidates should ensure all mandatory requirements are met. Candidates must carry:

  • Recent passport-size photographs, as specified
