The Joint Entrance Examination Main January session is being conducted by the National Testing Agency in two shifts, from 9 AM to 12 noon and 3 PM to 6 PM.
The examination was not held in West Bengal due to Saraswati Puja. Across other centres, the exam was conducted as scheduled with candidates reporting a smooth experience.
JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern and Structure
The JEE Main 2026 BTech paper consisted of three subjects, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each subject was divided into two sections.
Section A included 20 multiple-choice questions with a single correct answer. Section B consisted of 5 numerical-based questions, where candidates had to enter the correct value. The paper followed the standard JEE Main marking scheme and syllabus distribution.
JEE Main 2026 Jan 23 Shift 1 Overall Difficulty Level

A two-line overview of the topics asked is provided below to help candidates understand the focus areas of the paper. The section included a mix of theoretical and numerical questions. Key topics covered in the Physics section included:
- De Broglie wavelength and matter waves
- Electrostatics and capacitors
- Magnetic effects of current
- Wave optics and ray optics
- Semiconductors and modern physics concepts
