JoSAA and CSAB have issued a strict advisory on document verification for JEE Main 2026 admissions. Candidates failing to meet documentation rules may lose IIT, NIT, or IIIT seats despite high ranks. Category certificate format and authentication checks play a decisive role in seat confirmation.
JEE Main 2026 admission process has entered a critical phase as counselling authorities have issued a strict advisory on document verification. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority and the Central Seat Allocation Board have clarified that a high All India Rank alone will not guarantee admission to IITs, NITs, or IIITs if candidates fail to meet documentation requirements.
The advisory highlights that document authentication is the final and decisive stage of the admission process. Any discrepancy during verification can lead to immediate rejection of the allotted seat.
JoSAA and CSAB Emphasise Zero Tolerance for Document Errors
According to the advisory, candidates must produce all required documents in original and in the prescribed format. Failure to submit any authentic document at the time of verification will result in cancellation of admission.
Unlike some academic admissions, there is no provision for provisional acceptance in JEE Main 2026 counselling. If details mentioned in the JEE Main rank card do not match official certificates, the seat will be forfeited without reconsideration.
Category Certificate Rules for JEE Main 2026 Admissions
Candidates belonging to reserved categories face stricter scrutiny during verification. The advisory stresses that category certificates must strictly follow central government formats.
Certificates for Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD categories must be issued by a competent authority and within the prescribed validity period, usually after 01 April 2026. State-level certificate formats are not accepted for central counselling.
If a candidate fails to produce a valid certificate, the category benefit will be withdrawn. In many cases, this may push the candidate out of contention for seats in top engineering institutes.
Real-Time Authentication During Counselling
JoSAA 2026 and CSAB 2026 counselling processes use real-time authentication systems. During online reporting or physical verification, candidate data is cross-checked with central databases.
Discrepancies in Aadhaar details, Class 12 marksheets, category certificates, or identity proofs may trigger automatic rejection. Once rejected at this stage, the admission process is terminated for that round.
