Around 14.5 lakh registered candidates are waiting for the release of the JEE Main 2026 exam date and city allotment details. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct JEE Main 2026 Session 1 for Paper 1 (BE/BTech) and Paper 2A and 2B (BArch and BPlanning) starting from January 21, 2026. The city intimation slip, which informs candidates about their allotted exam city and date, is expected to be released in the first week of January 2026.
JEE Main 2026 City Intimation Slip: What It Includes
The city allotment slip will mention:
- Exam city
- Exam date
- Paper and shift details
Candidates can use this information to plan travel and accommodation well in advance. The slip is not the admit card but serves as a prior notice for logistical preparation.
JEE Main 2026 Exam Date and City Allotment: Key Highlights
Admit Card Release After City Allotment
The JEE Main 2026 admit card will be issued 3 to 4 days before the examination. Only candidates who download the admit card will be permitted to appear for the exam at the allotted centre.
Exam Centre Allotment Policy
While filling the application form, candidates were allowed to select up to 4 preferred cities. NTA will attempt to allot exam centres based on these preferences. However, due to administrative or logistical constraints, candidates may be assigned a different city. In cases where there are very few candidates from a particular city, NTA may merge 2 or more cities. The decision of the authority regarding exam centre allotment will be final.
What Candidates Should Do Next?
Candidates are advised to regularly check official updates and keep login credentials ready. Once the city intimation slip is released, they should verify details carefully and make necessary travel arrangements.
