The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has released the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2026. Candidates aspiring to appear in the exam must fulfill all conditions. Those not meeting the eligibility requirements will not be allowed to sit for the test.
The JEE Advanced 2026 exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 17, 2026, in computer-based mode. Registrations for the exam are expected to start in April 2026, and other details like syllabus and exam pattern will be shared on the official website jeeadv.ac.in in due course.
Five Key Eligibility Conditions for JEE Advanced 2026
IIT Roorkee has specified five main eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2026:
- Performance in JEE Main 2026 – Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 in the BE/BTech paper of JEE Main 2026. Category-wise percentages are: 10% GEN-EWS, 27% OBC-NCL, 15% SC, 7.5% ST, and 40.5% OPEN. Horizontal reservation of 5% is available for PwD candidates in each category.
- Age Limit – Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2001. A five-year relaxation applies to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, requiring birth on or after October 1, 1996.
- Number of Attempts – A candidate can appear a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
- Appearance in Class 12 – Candidates must have appeared for class 12 or its equivalent exam for the first time in 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
- Earlier Admission at IITs – Candidates must not have been admitted to an IIT under any program listed in JoSAA Business Rules 2025, regardless of whether they continued or withdrew. Candidates whose admission was cancelled after joining any IIT are also ineligible.
JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Details
The JEE Advanced 2026 exam will consist of two papers, as in previous years. Paper 1 will be held from 9 am to 12 noon, and Paper 2 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Both papers are compulsory for all candidates.
