IITs bar 20+ companies after revoked job offers hit students at the start of the placement season. The institutes took this collective decision to protect students affected by late offer withdrawals. The move follows multiple cases that surfaced across campuses.
IIT Placement Ban 2025 Decision and Key Reasons
The Indian Institutes of Technology began the placement season on Monday, with more than 20 companies barred from participating. The institutes acted after several firms rescinded job offers, including some withdrawn as late as June and July, just before joining dates.
Many IITs follow strict rules that prevent students with existing job offers from appearing for other interviews. Because of this, late withdrawals put students at severe risk, leaving them without alternatives and affecting their mental well-being.
According to a report, all IITs agreed unanimously to impose the ban for the current placement cycle. The decision came after multiple recorded instances of revoked offers across campuses. Some of the affected firms were from the data analytics, software, and technology sectors.
Placement teams at various IITs still attempted to support students who lost offers despite the delay. Officials said they reviewed past patterns and found that certain companies had repeated histories of offer withdrawals. As a result, six to seven IITs had already banned some of these firms earlier.
IIT Placement 2025 Policy Enforcement and Student Impact
A brief review of recent incidents shows the extent of the impact. A student shared that he was offered a package of around INR 30 lakh by a trading platform, but the offer was cancelled just two days before his joining date. Similar incidents were reported by several students across the institutes.
A professor involved in the placement process explained that some employers not only revoked offers but also reduced salary packages after issuing formal offer letters. This contributed to significant distrust among institutes and students.
IIT authorities are engaging with senior leaders of the concerned companies to address the problem. They are also urging firms to maintain transparency and honour commitments to avoid long-term reputational damage.
IIT Placement 2025 Focus on Government-Backed Start-ups
Despite the ban, the barred companies may still hire students through off-campus channels, though they cannot participate in organised IIT campus drives this cycle.
In response to the disruptions, IITs are diversifying their employer network. This year, placement cells are placing increased focus on start-ups supported under the Viksit Bharat programme, aiming to offer more stable and reliable opportunities to graduating students.
