The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Indian Army to introduce a Master of Technology (MTech) programme in Defence Technology. The initiative has been designed specifically for officers of the Armoured Corps Centre and School (ACC&S) to strengthen academic engagement, applied learning, and research-driven defence innovation.

The agreement was formally signed by Maj Gen Vikram Varma, AVSM, VSM, Commandant, ACC&S, and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar. The collaboration reflects a growing focus on building advanced defence technology expertise through structured academic programmes.
The ceremony was attended by several senior officials and academic leaders. Key participants included Lt Gen S S Mahal, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Professor of Practice at IIT Ropar, Shri Virbhadra Singh Rawat, Professor of Practice, Prof. Sarang Gumfekar, Associate Dean (PG and Research), IIT Ropar, along with senior officers and faculty members from both institutions.
MTech Defence Technology Programme for Armoured Corps Officers
The newly introduced MTech programme has been jointly developed by ACC&S and IIT Ropar. It aims to align academic training with operational military requirements, ensuring officers are equipped for technology-intensive roles within the armed forces.
According to the official press release, the curriculum will focus on applied learning, hands-on research, and innovation-driven problem-solving. Officers undergoing the programme will gain exposure to emerging defence technologies and advanced engineering applications relevant to modern warfare systems.
Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded an MTech (Defence Technology) degree from IIT Ropar.
