IIT Kharagpur has started the online application process for admission to its specialised law and public policy programmes for the 2026 academic year. The admissions are open for LLB (Honours in Intellectual Property Law), LLM, and Master’s in Public Policy, Law and Governance (MPPLG) programmes. The last date to apply is February 20, 2026.
The law programmes are offered through the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL), which focuses on intellectual property and technology law within the IIT ecosystem.
IIT Kharagpur LLB (Honours in Intellectual Property Law) 2026 Details
The LLB (Honours in Intellectual Property Law) is a three-year, full-time programme. It is designed for graduates from engineering, technology, science, medicine, and allied disciplines who wish to enter the legal profession with a focus on intellectual property and technology-driven law.
To be eligible, candidates must hold a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Medicine, or a First Class Master’s degree in Science or Pharmacy. Candidates with a First Class MBA degree along with the required qualifications are also eligible. Where First Class is not specified, a minimum of 60 percent marks or 6.5 CGPA is required. Final-year students can apply provisionally.
Admission will be through a Computer-Based Test (CBT) of two hours. The test will assess mathematics aptitude, science aptitude, English, logical reasoning, legal aptitude, and current affairs. There will be no negative marking. The test will be held in Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. The application fee is ₹3,000 for male candidates (General/OBC) and ₹1,500 for female, third gender, SC, ST, PwD, and EWS candidates.
IIT Kharagpur LLM Admission 2026 Eligibility and Test
The LLM programme is a two-year course with specialisations in Intellectual Property Law, Criminal Law, and International Law. It is aimed at law graduates seeking advanced academic and professional training.
Applicants must have a First Class LLB/BL degree from a recognised university. Final-year students are eligible to apply provisionally. Admission will be based on performance in a Computer-Based Test, conducted in Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
The application fee for LLM is INR 4,000 for male candidates (General/OBC) and INR 2,000 for female, third gender, SC, ST, PwD, and EWS candidates.
MPPLG Admission 2026 at IIT Kharagpur
The Master’s in Public Policy, Law and Governance (MPPLG) is a two-year, full-time postgraduate programme offered by the Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Law and Governance. The programme integrates public policy, legal frameworks, and governance studies.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree of at least four years in Science, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Commerce, or Arts. A minimum of 65 percent marks or 7 CGPA is required for General/OBC/EWS candidates, while 60 percent marks or 6.5 CGPA is required for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The upper age limit is 30 years for General/OBC/EWS and 35 years for SC/ST/PwD candidates as on January 1, 2026.
Admission will be conducted in two stages, including a Computer-Based Written Test, followed by group discussion and personal interview. The application fee is INR 3,000 for male candidates (General/OBC) and INR 1,500 for female, third gender, SC, ST, PwD, and EWS candidates.
