IIT Kanpur has announced admissions for its newly launched online M.Tech, M.Sc., and Postgraduate Diploma (PG Diploma) programs for working professionals. These programs allow learners to continue working while pursuing higher education and earn senate-approved degrees and diplomas from IIT Kanpur.
Prof. Vimal Kumar, Professor-in-Charge of the Office of Outreach Activities, stated that the programs combine the flexibility of digital learning with IIT Kanpur’s academic rigor. They are designed to prepare students for leadership in technology, economics, and emerging fields. He added that the courses are ideal for professionals, graduates, and lifelong learners who want to enhance their expertise and skills.
IIT Kanpur Online Programs: Courses and Details
The newly announced programs include:
- M.Tech (Online): Wireless Networks & Machine Learning, RF Engineering, Microelectronics & VLSI
- M.Sc. (Online): Economics and Data Analytics
- PG Diploma (Online): Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Renewable Energy Technologies
These programs offer flexible learning options, with M.Tech / M.Sc. durations of 2–4 years and PG Diplomas of 1–2 years, including live sessions and direct mentorship from IIT Kanpur faculty. Graduates will receive degrees and diplomas awarded at IIT Kanpur’s convocation.
Eligibility and Admission Process
Applicants must have a minimum CPI of 5.5 or 55% marks in their qualifying degree. Admission can be through valid national-level test scores (GATE, JAM, CEED, CAT, GRE, GMAT) meeting department-specific cutoffs, or via IIT Kanpur’s online entrance test.
Additional requirements may include:
- Relevant academic background or core coursework
- Professional or research experience
- CPI thresholds or department-specific tests/interviews
Exemptions from the online test are provided to professionals with over five years of relevant experience and candidates nominated or sponsored by government or defense organizations.
