IIT JEE Admission 2025: Seat Allotment Exceeds Sanctioned Capacity

IITs JEE admitted more students than their officially sanctioned capacity. According to the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) report, the total sanctioned intake across the 23 IITs was 18,160 seats, while 18,188 candidates were allotted seats, an excess of 28.

This over-admission has occurred in multiple premier IITs, including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, and IIT Kanpur. As per the officials, JoSAA’s practice is to balance withdrawals and ensure maximum seat utilisation.
