IIT-ISM Dhanbad Opens Summer Research Internship 2026 Applications

The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad has opened applications for its Summer Research Internship Scheme (SRIS) 2026. The programme allows undergraduate and postgraduate students from various institutions to work on faculty-guided research projects during the summer term. The internship programme is designed to provide students with hands-on research exposure and an opportunity to collaborate with faculty members at the institute. Applications for the internship have already started and interested candidates must submit their forms before the specified deadlines

 

IIT-ISM Dhanbad Summer Research Internship 2026 Important Dates

The institute has released the application timeline for different categories of the internship programme. Candidates should check the deadlines carefully to avoid missing the opportunity. The key dates for the internship programme are listed below.

  • Application Start Date: 01 March 2026
  • Last Date to Apply (Category I & II): 15 April 2026
  • Last Date to Apply (Category III): 30 April 2026

Applications for Category I and Category II must be submitted via email to srip@iitism.ac.in within the specified deadline

 

Categories of IIT-ISM Summer Research Internship Scheme

The internship programme is divided into multiple categories depending on the academic level of the applicant. Each category is designed to support different types of research engagement. The internship categories include:

  • Category I: Undergraduate students pursuing BTech or equivalent programmes
  • Category II: Postgraduate students such as MTech, MSc, or MBA
  • Category III: Long-term research internship for advanced academic engagement

While Categories I and II generally run for one to two months, the long-term internship under Category III can extend for six to twelve months depending on the research project.

 

Eligibility and Selection Criteria for Internship

The internship programme is open to students from recognised universities and institutes who demonstrate strong academic performance. Selection of candidates will be based on several factors, including:

  • Academic performance and CGPA
  • Research proposal submitted by the applicant
  • Publications or academic achievements
  • Letters of recommendation from faculty members

Applicants are expected to have an academic background relevant to the research area they choose while applying.

 

Internship Duration and Research Exposure

Selected candidates will work closely with faculty mentors on research projects in their respective disciplines. The programme aims to encourage research interest among students and provide practical exposure to academic research environments. The summer internship typically lasts up to two months, during which students participate in laboratory work, research discussions and project development under the guidance of faculty supervisors.
