The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 24, 2025, to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education among school students and provide professional development opportunities for teachers.
According to an official statement, this marks the first-ever formal collaboration between KVS and any IIT for STEM outreach. The partnership aims to create an innovative ecosystem where students gain practical exposure to scientific concepts, and teachers receive advanced training in modern teaching methodologies.
First Formal Collaboration Between IIT and KVS
The MoU formalises the ongoing collaboration between IIT Delhi and KVS through initiatives such as the Sci Tech Spins (STS) Lecture Series, organised by the Office of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives at IIT Delhi.
In 2025, IIT Delhi conducted eight STS sessions, engaging around 3,000 Kendriya Vidyalaya students from classes nine to twelve across the Delhi-NCR region. The series focused on making science interactive and accessible to government school students, particularly those studying in Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Focus on STEM Activities and Experiential Learning
Under this collaboration, KV students and teachers will participate in various STEM-based workshops and outreach activities hosted by IIT Delhi. These programmes will introduce school students to real-world scientific applications, aiming to make learning fun, engaging, and practical.
The initiative is designed to nurture curiosity and creativity among learners while connecting theoretical knowledge with real-life experiments and problem-solving techniques.
IIT Delhi Faculty to Conduct STEM Training in KV Schools
As part of the agreement, IIT Delhi faculty and students will conduct outreach sessions in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools. These sessions will focus on:
- Using emerging technological tools in classroom teaching
- Understanding advancements in STEM fields
- Adopting innovative teaching methodologies
These training sessions will help KV educators stay updated with the latest developments in STEM education and bring interactive, research-based approaches into school classrooms.
Feedback and Continuous Improvement Mechanism
The collaboration also includes a structured feedback system to measure the programme’s impact. IIT Delhi will gather feedback from both students and teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of sessions and make improvements where needed.
According to the institute, this continuous feedback mechanism aligns with IIT Delhi’s mission to foster innovation, curiosity, and inquiry-based learning from an early age.
Strengthening the Foundation of Future Innovators
The partnership is expected to strengthen the foundation of science and technology education across Kendriya Vidyalayas. It will equip teachers with 21st-century teaching skills and motivate students to pursue careers in STEM disciplines.
By bridging academic research with school-level learning, the collaboration aims to make science education more accessible, exciting, and impactful for the next generation of learners.
