The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has received a record alumni pledge of over INR 70 crore from its Class of 2000 during the batch’s silver jubilee reunion held on campus. This is the highest financial commitment by a single graduating batch in the institute’s history and underscores the strong bond between alumni and their alma mater. A significant portion of the pledged amount will be allocated to the institute’s General Endowment, which provides IIT Delhi with long-term financial flexibility to support a wide range of institutional priorities. These include strengthening academic programmes, advancing research and innovation, enhancing student scholarships, and promoting faculty excellence.
Silver Jubilee Reunion and Alumni Engagement
The silver jubilee reunion brought together alumni of the Class of 2000 from across India and overseas, offering an opportunity for former students to reconnect with faculty and current students, and to reflect on their shared experiences. Most of the funds were pledged as part of a collective effort to create sustained impact over decades rather than merely achieving a headline number. Speaking on behalf of the batch, Rohit Dube, an alumnus and the batch fundraising lead, said that the commitment was driven by a sense of shared ownership and responsibility toward future generations of students.
Impact of the Alumni Pledge
Prof. Nilanjan Senroy, Dean of Alumni Relations at IIT Delhi, welcomed the announcement, noting that the substantial pledge reflects the deep sense of belonging that alumni feel towards the institute. He emphasised that this commitment will contribute significantly to IIT Delhi’s ongoing efforts to enhance research, education, infrastructure and student support. The endowment fund supported by the alumni pledge will strengthen the institute’s ability to pursue strategic and philanthropic priorities aligned with its long-term goals. It is expected to serve as an inspiration for future batches to contribute proactively to the institute’s growth and excellence.
Role of Alumni Support at IIT Delhi
Alumni contributions have played a vital role in IIT Delhi’s journey, enhancing academic excellence and expanding research capacity. The INR 70 crore commitment by the Class of 2000 is considered a major philanthropic milestone, demonstrating how alumni engagement can shape the institute’s future and elevate its global standing. The announcement reinforces the importance of alumni support in sustaining high-quality education, fostering innovation and empowering students to pursue research and professional success.
