The Indian Institute of Management Udaipur has officially exited the Common Admission Process (CAP) for MBA admissions starting with the 2026–28 batch. From 2026 onwards, the institute will conduct its own shortlisting, Written Ability Test, and Personal Interview process independently. This move is expected to bring major changes for candidates planning to seek admission at IIM Udaipur through CAT 2025. The decision reflects the institute’s intent to align its admission process more closely with its academic philosophy and long-term strategic goals. With this, IIM Udaipur joins the list of IIMs adopting autonomous admission frameworks.
IIM Udaipur CAP Exit 2026: What Has Changed for MBA Aspirants
With the exit from CAP, IIM Udaipur will no longer participate in the common interview process conducted for newer IIMs. Instead, the institute will independently shortlist candidates based on CAT 2025 scores, followed by its own evaluation rounds. Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for Written Ability Test and Personal Interview conducted by IIM Udaipur at designated centres across major Indian cities. This change is expected to allow the institute greater flexibility in assessing candidates based on diverse academic and professional backgrounds. Candidates must now apply directly to IIM Udaipur instead of opting through the centralized CAP portal. This also means that selection criteria, cut-offs, and evaluation parameters will be institute-specific from the 2026 admission cycle.
Revised Weightage in IIM Udaipur MBA Admission Policy 2026
The updated MBA admission policy brings a revised distribution of weightage among different selection components. The new structure reduces the dominance of CAT score while increasing the importance of personal assessment and overall profile. Before understanding the revised selection criteria, candidates should note that this change aims to ensure a more holistic evaluation process that goes beyond test performance alone. The institute has restructured the final selection formula to give due importance to interview performance and candidate diversity.
IIM Udaipur MBA 2026 Selection Weightage
- Normalized CAT Score – 55 percent
- Personal Interview – 25 percent
- Academic Profile, Work Experience and Diversity – 20 percent
Only full-time, post-qualification work experience will be considered valid for work-experience weightage. Internships and part-time roles will not be accepted under this criterion.
What Independent MBA Admissions Mean for CAT 2025 Candidates?
The exit from CAP significantly changes how CAT 2025 test-takers will plan their IIM admission strategy. Aspirants targeting IIM Udaipur must now track institute-specific notifications closely, as application schedules, cut-offs, and interview timelines will be announced separately. The increased weightage to Personal Interview and candidate profile is expected to benefit applicants with strong academic consistency, quality work experience, and diverse educational backgrounds. It also reduces the over-dependence on a single test score during final selection. Candidates offered admission will be required to pay an acceptance fee of INR 100000 within the stipulated timeline to secure their seat, subject to the institute’s refund policy.
