In a remarkable display of intellectual prowess and international collaboration, the Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) in Greater Noida recently hosted its flagship event, the Hermes Dialogue 6.0. This annual debate competition, organized by the PGDM-International Business program, attracted participants from 12 countries, showcasing the importance of global dialogue in addressing pressing issues.

The Hermes Dialogue 6.0 revolved around a theme of critical relevance: “Should Countries Prioritize Energy Independence to Ensure Global Energy Security Amid Rising Geopolitical Uncertainty?” This topic reflects the growing complexities of the global energy landscape, where energy resources are increasingly viewed not just as economic assets but also as pivotal geopolitical tools. The discussions held during the event resonated deeply with contemporary challenges faced by nations worldwide.

 

IIM Rohtak Competition Structure and Participation

This year’s competition saw an impressive turnout, with over 250 registrations from premier business schools across India. The event featured a total prize pool of ₹60,000, attracting some of the brightest minds in the field of business and international relations.

 

The competition was structured into multiple rounds:

  • An initial knowledge-based assessment conducted on the Unstop platform, designed to evaluate participants' cognitive agility and decision-making skills.
  • A case submission round that showcased participants' analytical and multidimensional thinking capabilities.
  • The final round, a battle of perspectives, where participants represented different nations and articulated their viewpoints on energy independence, simulating discussions akin to those at the United Nations and G20 forums.

 

IIM Rohtak Winners and Finalists

After intense deliberations, Team LeBroom from IIM Rohtak emerged victorious, claiming the top spot in this prestigious debate. Following closely were Team Magnus from FORE School of Management, who secured the second position, and Team Strategy from Shri Ram College of Commerce, who finished as the second runners-up.

 

The finalists represented esteemed institutions, including:

  • BIMTECH
  • IIT Patna
  • International Management Institute
  • Great Lakes Institute of Management
  • National Insurance Academy
  • NIA Pune

 

IIM Rohtak Judging Panel and Evaluation Criteria

The judging panel for the Hermes Dialogue 6.0 comprised distinguished figures in the field of international trade and policy-making. Notable members included:

  • Mr. Rajeev Kher, IAS (Retd.), Former Commerce Secretary, Government of India
  • Mr. Sumanta Chaudhuri, IAS (Retd.), Principal Advisor, International Trade Policy, Confederation of Indian Industry

The jury evaluated participants based on critical dimensions of international trade, diplomacy, and policy-making, ensuring a rigorous assessment of their arguments and presentation skills.
