The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow has introduced a new research grant initiative titled the 99 Moonshots Fellowship to strengthen doctoral-level research. The fellowship has been funded by the PGP batch of 1999 alumni. Under this initiative, 2 PhD scholars will receive research funding in the current academic cycle. The fellowship is aimed at encouraging high-impact academic research with relevance to industry and society while improving the global research profile of the institute.
99 Moonshots Fellowship Launched by IIM Lucknow Alumni
The 99 Moonshots Fellowship has been conceptualised and funded by alumni from the 1999 batch as a long-term effort to raise the research output and international standing of IIM Lucknow. The initiative supports scholars pursuing full-time doctoral programmes at the institute. Before understanding the financial benefits and selection rules, it is important to note that the fellowship focuses on publication quality, global exposure, and sustained mentoring, making it one of the most comprehensive alumni-led research programs at an Indian IIM.
Fellowship Benefits and Financial Support Structure
The fellowship offers a combination of financial incentives and academic assistance for selected scholars. The structure of benefits has been designed to cover both publication and international exposure needs of research scholars.
The journal award of INR 100000 will be provided for research accepted or published in top-tier academic journals. The conference grant of INR 300000 will support participation in leading international research conferences.
Selection Process and Research Monitoring Framework
Applicants must submit detailed research proposals before a designated selection committee constituted by the institute. The committee evaluates candidates based on research originality, feasibility, academic merit, and publication potential. Once selected, scholars must present progress updates every 6 months before a monitoring panel comprising members of the Thesis Advisory Committee and a representative from the 1999 alumni batch. This mid-term evaluation ensures continuous academic progress and accountability.
Objective Behind the Fellowship and Institutional Vision
According to institute officials, the initiative reflects a deep commitment toward long-term research excellence. The alumni-backed funding is expected to enhance global collaboration, high-quality publications, and doctoral training standards at IIM Lucknow. The institute plans to expand the fellowship to more scholars in future cycles, depending on outcomes and funding continuity. The long-term goal remains focused on improving institutional research rankings and international academic visibility.
