IIM Lucknow Gets EQUIS Accreditation: Joins India’s 1% Elite B-Schools

The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L) has achieved the prestigious EQUIS accreditation, placing the institute among the top 1% Triple Crown business schools globally. With AACSB, AMBA, and now EQUIS recognition, IIM-L enters an elite cluster known for exceptional academic quality, global engagement and impactful management education standards. According to official data, only 231 business schools across 46 countries currently hold EQUIS accreditation, highlighting the exclusivity of this global benchmark. In India, only a handful of institutions meet the international quality parameters required for Triple Crown validation.

IIM Lucknow EQUIS Accreditation: Why This Recognition Matters?

EQUIS, administered by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), is regarded as one of the world’s most rigorous evaluation frameworks. For management institutions, the accreditation is a validation of quality across governance, curriculum, research output, global partnerships, and industry relevance. Before diving into assessment criteria, it is important to note that the EQUIS process spans 12–24 months, involving extensive peer reviews, strategic documentation and verification of institutional performance. This long evaluation timeline itself reflects the depth of scrutiny undertaken by EFMD.

Key Areas Assessed Under EQUIS Accreditation

  • Internationalisation and global collaboration
  • Research quality and societal impact
  • Corporate partnerships and industry engagement
  • Ethics, sustainability and institutional responsibility
  • Innovation, curriculum upgrades and continuous improvement

IIM Lucknow Joins the Triple Crown Club

By securing EQUIS, IIM Lucknow becomes part of an exclusive group of business schools worldwide that hold all three major accreditations – AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. Globally, less than 1% of B-schools meet this standard, making this achievement a milestone for Indian management education. Prof. M.P. Gupta, Director of IIM Lucknow, said the accreditation reflects the institution’s long-term commitment to academic excellence. He credited the faculty, staff, students, alumni and partners for contributing to the institute’s progress and strengthening its global footprint. The recognition is expected to enhance IIM-L’s international visibility, research collaborations, exchange programmes and global recruiter outreach in the coming years.
