IIM Bangalore Launches Personal Finance Certificate Programme

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore has announced the launch of a new executive-level Certificate Programme on Personal Finance and Wealth Advisory, developed in collaboration with Financial Planning Standards Board India. The programme will be offered under IIM Bangalore Executive Education and registrations are currently open for the March 2026 academic session. The programme has been designed and delivered by the Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management at IIM Bangalore in partnership with FPSB India. It aims to address the growing demand for structured financial planning education aligned with global professional standards.

Programme Structure and Academic Focus

The Personal Finance and Wealth Advisory programme combines academic depth with applied learning. According to the institute, the curriculum integrates foundational economic concepts with modern advisory practices to prepare professionals for the evolving financial services ecosystem. The course framework includes microeconomics, financial markets, business decision-making, and the use of Bloomberg datasets. Participants will also be introduced to contemporary wealth management models and client-centric advisory frameworks relevant to India’s expanding personal finance sector. Faculty members highlighted that the programme has been structured to balance theory and real-world application, enabling learners to build both analytical capability and professional judgment.

Alignment with Industry and Global Standards

Before reviewing participant outcomes, it is important to note that the programme has been developed in alignment with international financial planning benchmarks. FPSB India, which administers the CFP certification in India, has played a key role in shaping the academic and professional components of the course. Dr. Aishwarya Krishna, Research Consultant at the Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management, stated that the programme reflects emerging industry needs and integrates academic rigour with practical relevance. The curriculum has been positioned to support professionals seeking structured advancement in personal finance advisory roles.

Certification Benefits and Professional Outcomes

Participants who successfully complete the programme will be awarded IIM Bangalore Executive Education Programme Alumni Status. In addition, eligible candidates may qualify for the Fast Track Pathway toward the CFP Certification administered by FPSB India, subject to applicable criteria. FPSB India has indicated that such academic collaborations form part of its broader strategy to strengthen the financial planning profession. Its Value of Financial Planning Research published in 2023 noted that certified professionals often experience measurable growth in client trust, career progression, and earning potential within the first year of certification.

Strengthening Financial Planning Education in India

The collaboration between IIM Bangalore and FPSB India reflects a broader shift toward formalising personal finance education in India. With increasing awareness around financial literacy and long-term wealth planning, structured certification programmes are expected to play a key role in professionalising the sector. The institute is expected to share further details regarding eligibility, duration, and delivery format of the programme closer to the commencement of the March 2026 session.
