HP PAT 2026 Registration Deadline Approaches: Key Details Inside

The Himachal Pradesh Board of Technical Education (HPBTE) has officially opened the registration for the Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) 2026. This critical entrance examination is a gateway for aspiring students seeking admission into various polytechnic institutes across Himachal Pradesh. Candidates interested in applying must act quickly, as the registration window closes on May 5, 2026.

The HP PAT 2026 is scheduled to take place on May 17, 2026, from 10 AM to 1 PM. The examination will be conducted at 29 designated centres throughout the state. It is important to note that once candidates are assigned an examination centre, requests for changes will not be entertained by the board.

Application Process

Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official website, hptechboard.com. The application process requires candidates to pay a specified fee, which is essential for their registration to be processed. It is advisable for applicants to complete their registrations well before the deadline to avoid any last-minute issues.

Exam Structure and Scoring

The HP PAT 2026 will consist of a comprehensive question paper featuring 150 questions. The scoring system is designed to reward accuracy: candidates will earn four marks for each correct answer, while one mark will be deducted for each incorrect response. This scoring method emphasizes the importance of careful answering, as incorrect guesses can significantly impact total scores.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the HP PAT 2026, candidates must meet specific requirements set by the HPBTE. These criteria ensure that only qualified individuals can participate in the examination and subsequently gain admission to polytechnic institutes. The institutes are recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and include Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) accredited by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).

Merit List and Counselling Process

Following the examination, the HPBTE will prepare a merit list based on the scores achieved by candidates in the HP PAT 2026. Once the results are published, successful candidates will have the opportunity to indicate their preferences for courses and institutes. Additionally, there will be a second round of counselling where candidates can modify their preferences, providing them with a chance to adjust their choices based on the merit list outcomes.
