Himachal Govt to Open 100 New CBSE Schools in Rural Areas

The Himachal Pradesh Government has unveiled a major school-education expansion plan aimed at strengthening learning access in remote areas. As per a recent report published by The Tribune, the state has approved the establishment of 100 new CBSE-affiliated schools across rural and tribal belts to reduce regional academic gaps. The decision marks one of the state’s largest school-infrastructure pushes in recent years. Senior officials stated that these schools will operate under a modern learning framework, with a focus on digital tools, teacher training and activity-based classrooms.

100 Schools Planned in High-Need Zones

According to officials, the new institutions will be set up in blocks where government schools face shortages of staff, infrastructure and specialised subject support. A review conducted earlier this year identified regions where students struggle to access CBSE-standard facilities. The department noted that these schools are expected to follow the CBSE curriculum from the foundational to secondary level. The model will also include early childhood education, skill-based modules and technology-integrated classrooms.

Focus on Rural Learning Quality

The Tribune report highlights that the new plan aims to reduce the migration of students to towns for CBSE-aligned education. Many rural families have been dependent on private schools in nearby cities due to limited options within their districts. State authorities believe the move will help bridge learning differences between rural and urban learners. Officials also emphasised that improved infrastructure, modern labs and a stronger teacher base will form the core of the expansion.

Teacher Recruitment and Training on Priority

The state government has stated that teacher vacancies will be filled as part of the rollout. Recruitment is expected to prioritise subject-specialist educators for Mathematics, Science and English. Training modules aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 will be introduced, ensuring that new staff members follow CBSE learning and assessment practices. Officials are also exploring digital training tools to support teachers posted in remote areas.

Infrastructure Push in Tribal Regions

Several of the proposed schools will be located in tribal districts, where seasonal migration and difficult terrain often affect attendance. The education department plans to include hostels, safe transport and solar-powered classrooms to support uninterrupted learning. Local panchayats are expected to assist in land allocation and community-level planning.

Parents Welcome the Move

Parents in remote villages have welcomed the announcement. Community leaders noted that this step will reduce education-related expenses and help students prepare for national-level competitive exams aligned with the CBSE pattern.

Official Statement

Government representatives told Tribune reporters that the project aligns with the state’s broader mission of strengthening school education by 2030. Detailed timelines and financial allocations are expected to be released in the next phase.
