HC Strikes Down Sports Quota Added MidWay in Goa MBBS NEET Counselling

After the introduction of the Sports Quota for Admission, the High Court has smashed the rule in the middle of the ongoing NEET Counselling. The High Court interfered in the case after the petition filed by the candidate against the notice issued by the Directorate of Technical Education. As per the notice, the authority was inviting the sportsperson for their vacant seats under the Children of Freedom Fighters Category.

After the petitions were filed, the bench of Justice formed for the case, and then Justice Bharati H Dangre and Nivedita P Mehta passed an order smashing the Sport-Quota Rule for Admission.

The Bombay High Court said that introducing new admissions rules during the Goa NEET Counselling is totally unfair for the participating candidates. The legal case includes 180 MBBS Seats at Goa Medical College and 50 BDS Seats at Goa Dental College.

The petition also said that during the first round of the counselling process, two candidates secured better ranks than the petitioner had secured their seats. And the petitioner was in hope of getting a seat in another counselling round. But, due to the introduction of the new admission policy, all his hopes were crushed by the authority. This made the petitioner file the petition against the authority. The petition filed the case against the authority, stating that the introduction of the new policy after the declaration of the merit list has compromised the transparency and fairness of the counselling process.

The High Court came in support of the petitioners and said that the authority has the right to frame the new policies. But the authority has to clearly notify before the commencement of the counselling process.
