Google on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, announced funding commitments worth millions of dollars to strengthen India's artificial intelligence ecosystem. The support will focus on sectors including healthcare, agriculture, education, and sustainable urban development.
Google AI Funding Support for Centres of Excellence and Startups
As part of the initiative, Google will provide USD 8 million in funding to India's AI Centres of Excellence operating across key sectors. In addition, a separate commitment of USD 400,000 has been made to develop India's Health Foundation Model, aimed at improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
The tech giant also announced grants of USD 50,000 each for Indian AI startups Gnani.AI, CoRover.AI, and BharatGen, supporting the creation of AI models focused on Indic language solutions.
Investment in Wadhwani AI for Multilingual Applications
Google will invest USD 4.5 million in Wadhwani AI to support the development of multilingual AI-powered applications for healthcare and agriculture. These applications aim to enhance sector efficiency and address local challenges.
Collaboration with Ajna Lens and AI Institutes
To advance healthcare AI, Ajna Lens will work with experts from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to develop models for dermatology and outpatient department triaging. The resulting models will contribute to India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and be accessible across the wider ecosystem.
Researchers, AI specialists, and clinicians from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will also explore broader clinical applications of AI models.
Establishment of Indic Language Technologies Research Hub
In a separate initiative, Google announced a founding contribution of USD 2 million to establish an Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). The hub will focus on ensuring that global AI advancements support India’s linguistic diversity.
