The Ghana Education Service has announced that the supplementary teacher promotion aptitude test will be held on 17 February 2026.Teachers who could not sit for the original 2025 promotion exam will get another chance, with centres allocated by region.

GES Schedules Supplementary Teacher Promotion Exam on 17 Feb 2026

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially scheduled a supplementary promotion aptitude test for qualified teachers who were unable to take part in the 2025 promotion exam due to circumstances beyond their control. The supplementary examination will take place on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, starting at 9:00 am. The exercise aims to give affected teachers a fair opportunity to participate in the promotion process and progress in their career paths.

 

GES Regional Exam Centres and Scheduling

To ensure accessibility across the country, GES has grouped examination centres into four zones covering all regions:

  • Zone 1: Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono and Bono East regions — Wesley College of Education, Kumasi
  • Zone 2: Central, Western and Western North regions — National Language Training Institute (NLT), University of Cape Coast
  • Zone 3: Eastern, Greater Accra, Oti and Volta regions — Accra College of Education, Accra
  • Zone 4: Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West regions — Tamale College of Education, Tamale

Teachers are encouraged to report to their assigned regional centre and adhere to the reporting time and examination instructions provided by GES.

 

GES Index Numbers and Candidate Communication

GES has stated that index numbers for eligible candidates will be sent directly to teachers via text message by Monday, 9 February 2026. Candidates must ensure that their contact details on record with GES are current and accurate to receive this information. Teachers should carry and use their assigned index numbers on exam day, as writing the supplementary exam without a valid index number will not be permitted.

 

GES Exam Preparation and Examination Day Tips

Candidates are advised to:

  • Arrive at their designated examination centre well before the start time of 9:00 am.
  • Bring a valid national ID card and their GES index number.
  • Follow all examination guidelines and instructions issued by GES officials.

The supplementary promotion test covers various ranks eligible for promotion who were previously listed but could not sit for the main 2025 test. The exercise underscores GES’s commitment to fairness and transparency in teacher career progression.
