The GCE Advanced Level Examination 2025, which was abruptly halted due to severe weather conditions, will now resume from 12/01. The postponed A/L papers of 11/27, 11/28 and 11/29 have been officially rescheduled for 12/07, 12/08 and 12/09. The announcement was made by Examinations Commissioner General Indika Kumari Liyanage, confirming that all necessary arrangements have been completed to ensure smooth conduct of the revised A/L examination schedule.
Revised GCE A/L 2025 Exam Schedule After Postponement
Following widespread disruptions caused by adverse climatic conditions across several districts, the Department of Examinations reviewed ground reports from district administrations and emergency agencies. Based on safety assessments, the department finalised a revised examination timetable for the postponed subjects. To ensure students face no further academic loss, coordination was carried out with multiple agencies including the Disaster Management Center, Tri-Forces, Sri Lanka Police, Provincial Directors of Education, and District Secretaries. The revised schedule aims to avoid overlap with future subject papers and ensure adequate preparation time for candidates.
These revised dates apply uniformly across all affected examination centers. Students have been advised to follow the same admit cards without any change in roll numbers or venue details.
Safety Measures and Administrative Coordination for December Exams
The Education Ministry confirmed that enhanced safety protocols will be implemented during the December examination period. Special monitoring teams will be stationed in vulnerable districts to ensure student safety, uninterrupted power supply, and transport accessibility. Officials stated that all examination centers will be reviewed for structural safety before reopening. Emergency response teams will remain on standby throughout the exam days to handle any weather-related contingencies. School authorities have also been directed to maintain digital attendance reporting to avoid crowd mismanagement at centers.
Impact on Students and Academic Calendar
The sudden halt in examinations created anxiety among students and parents, particularly in regions affected by heavy rain and flooding. The rescheduling to early December ensures minimal disruption to the overall 2025 academic calendar and university admission timelines. Education authorities emphasized that the revised A/L schedule will not impact university entrance processing or merit-based selections. Universities have been instructed to adjust their admission timelines accordingly to accommodate the revised A/L results. Students are advised to continue preparation without delay and regularly follow official notices for center-specific instructions and transport guidelines issued by district education offices.
