The GATE 2026 examination is approaching, and candidates must be aware of the items they are required to carry to the test centre, as well as those that are strictly prohibited. Following these guidelines will help ensure a smooth exam day without unnecessary stress or entry issues.
Essential Items to Carry to GATE 2026 Exam Centre
Candidates appearing for GATE 2026 must bring the following mandatory items to the examination centre:
- Printed GATE 2026 admit card – Issued by the organising authority and required for entry.
- Valid photo identification – Acceptable IDs include Aadhaar Card, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving Licence; the name must match the admit card.
- Passport‑size photographs – Recent coloured photos may be needed for verification.
- Stationery – As permitted by the conducting body, including ballpoint pens or other allowed writing tools.
Ensure that all documents are legible and in good condition to prevent issues during biometric or physical verification at the centre.
Prohibited Items Inside the GATE Exam Hall
To maintain the integrity of the GATE 2026 exam, the following items are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall:
- Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, smartwatches, fitness bands, calculators, and Bluetooth devices.
- Study material, notes, books, and scribbled papers.
- Bags, purses, wallets and other personal items not explicitly allowed.
- Earphones, headphones or any communication device.
Candidates will not be permitted to carry these items inside the centre and may be denied entry if found in possession of prohibited objects during inspection.
Important GATE 2026 Centre Guidelines
On the day of the exam, candidates should follow centre protocols to avoid disruptions:
- Reach the exam centre well before the reporting time to complete verification and seating procedures.
- Follow all COVID‑19 or health safety instructions as applicable.
- Cooperate with centre staff during identity checks, biometric scanning and seating arrangements.
- Maintain decorum and listen to invigilator instructions carefully throughout the exam duration.
Failure to adhere to the guidelines may lead to disqualification or cancellation of the candidature.

Ahead of GATE 2026, candidates should:
- Review the syllabus modestly, focusing on revision rather than new topics.
- Ensure all required documents are ready the night before the exam.
