What Is the GATE 2026 Response Sheet?

The response sheet is an official document that shows the responses recorded by a candidate during the GATE exam. It helps examinees to:

  • Analyse and review answers given in the test
  • Compare responses with the provisional answer key
  • Estimate probable scores before the result declaration

Using the response sheet along with the answer key and the official marking scheme, candidates can calculate tentative scores ahead of the final result announcement on 19 March 2026.

Using Response Sheet for GATE Score Estimation

By comparing the answers on their response sheet with the official provisional answer key, candidates can estimate their expected marks using the GATE marking scheme. Typically:

  • 1‑mark MCQs: 1/3rd negative marking for incorrect answers
  • 2‑mark MCQs: 2/3rd negative marking for wrong responses
  • MSQ and NAT questions: No negative marking

This early evaluation helps candidates gauge their performance ahead of the final result declaration.

GATE Answer Key Objection and Next Steps

After the release of the provisional answer key and response sheet, the conducting body may open an objection window for a limited period. Candidates can raise objections against the provisional answers by paying a prescribed fee per question. After reviewing all challenges, the final answer key is published, and the GATE 2026 result is prepared based on the final key.
