GATE 2026 Late Fee Registration Closes on October 9 – Check Details

The GATE 2026 late fee registration concluded on October 9, 2025, as per the schedule released by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, the conducting body for this year’s exam. Candidates who missed the regular registration deadline were allowed to apply during the extended period by paying an additional fee through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal. Earlier, the regular registration deadline was extended till October 7 due to technical issues faced by applicants. The authorities confirmed that no further extensions would be provided after the late fee deadline.

 

GATE 2026 Late Fee Structure

The GATE 2026 registration with late fee required candidates to pay an additional amount over the standard fee. The fee details for different categories are listed below:

The payment could be made through debit card, credit card, UPI, or net banking. During the extended registration period, an extra INR 500 was charged to all categories.

 

Steps to Apply for GATE 2026 During Late Fee Period

Candidates who completed their registration before the closing date followed the below steps through the GOAPS portal:

  1. Visit the official GATE website and click on “Apply Online”.
  2. Register to generate an enrollment ID.
  3. Create a secure password and log in to fill out personal and academic details.
  4. Upload documents as per specifications.
  5. Pay the late registration fee and submit the application form.
  6. Download and print the filled form for future reference.

 

GATE 2026 Application Scrutiny and Status Updates

After the submission process, the applications entered a scrutiny stage, where officials verified uploaded documents and details. If the candidate’s dashboard displayed the status as “Application Under Scrutiny,” it indicated that the review process was ongoing. In case of any discrepancies, applicants received an email or SMS notification on their registered contact details, along with a specific deadline to make corrections. Candidates are advised to regularly check the GOAPS portal for real-time status updates

 

GATE 2026 Exam Schedule and Correction Window

The GATE 2026 examination is scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The exam will be conducted in two sessions daily — Forenoon (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM) and Afternoon (2:30 PM to 5:30 PM). Following the completion of registration scrutiny, the correction window will open in early November 2025. As per the official brochure, the last date to make corrections is November 6. Candidates will be allowed to modify limited fields such as exam city, paper, or category during this period.
