GATE 2026 Last Date to Apply Without Late Fee on September 28

IIT Guwahati, the conducting body of GATE 2026, will close the application process without late fee on 28 September 2025. Candidates seeking admission to MTech, PhD, or other postgraduate programmes must complete their registration at gate2026.iitg.ac.in before the deadline. Applications submitted after this date will attract late fee charges.

 

GATE 2026 Application Window and Registration Process

The GATE 2026 application portal (GOAPS) opened on 28 August 2025. Eligible candidates were required to create an account, fill in details, upload documents, and pay the registration fee to complete the process. The extended application window with a late fee will remain open until 9 October 2025.A short note before steps: Candidates must register online through the official IIT Guwahati portal to apply successfully.

  • Visit the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
  • Create a new account with name, mobile number, and email ID.
  • Receive an enrolment ID and create a password.
  • Log in and fill out the application form with accurate details.
  • Upload the required documents in the prescribed format.
  • Pay the GATE 2026 exam fee in INR and apply.
  • Download and print the confirmation page for reference.

 

GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Students in the third year, final year, or graduates of engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, or humanities are eligible to apply for GATE 2026.

 

GATE 2026 Documents Required

Applicants had to upload specific documents based on their category. Below is a quick summary:

  • All candidates: Photograph, signature, and valid ID proof.
  • SC/ST category: Caste certificate.
  • PwD/dyslexic applicants: Medical or PwD certificate.
  • EWS/OBC-NCL candidates: No certificate upload required at the time of application.

GATE 2026 Exam Dates and Pattern

The GATE 2026 exam will be conducted on 7, 8, 14, and 15 February 2026 in two shifts:

  • Morning: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Afternoon: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM

The test will be held for 30 papers in online mode. The question paper will include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Each paper will cover General Aptitude and subject-specific topics.
