GATE 2026 Feb 7 Shift 2 Exam Begins from 2:30 PM

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 February 7 Shift 2 examination has officially begun today at 2:30 PM. The afternoon shift will continue till 5:30 PM across examination centres in India. The exam is being conducted by IIT Guwahati in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Candidates were advised to report to their respective GATE exam centres well before the reporting time to complete biometric verification and security checks. Entry to the examination hall was closed strictly as per the schedule mentioned in the admit card.

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme of GATE 2026

The GATE 2026 question paper consists of 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The paper includes a mix of:

  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)
  • Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions

The General Aptitude (GA) section carries 15 marks, while the remaining 85 marks are allotted to the subject-specific section. Negative marking applies only to MCQs, whereas MSQs and NAT questions do not have any negative marking.

 

Important Instructions for Candidates of GATE 2026

Candidates appearing in the GATE 2026 Shift 2 exam were required to carry a printed copy of their admit card along with a valid photo ID proof. Electronic gadgets, study materials, and personal items were strictly prohibited inside the exam hall. Virtual calculators were provided on the computer screen, and no physical calculators were allowed.

The official GATE 2026 answer keys are expected to be released in the last week of February. The GATE 2026 result will be announced on March 19, 2026, as per the official schedule. Candidates will be able to download their scorecards after the declaration of results.
