The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 conducted by IIT Guwahati successfully concluded its second shift on 7 February 2026 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Candidates appeared for AE, BT, CH, CY, GE, PH, and XH papers in this afternoon session.

 

GATE 2026 Feb 7 Shift 2: Paper-wise Analysis

  • CH (Chemical Engineering): Overall easy to moderate; questions included area in polar coordinates, moderate-level maths and aptitude; some students found the paper slightly lengthy.
  • AE, BT, CY, GE, PH, XH: Papers generally moderate; students reported conceptual and application-based questions with a mix of MCQs, NATs, and MSQs.

Maths and aptitude sections were reported easy to moderate, with calculations manageable. Candidates attempting CH, PH, and XH papers can refer to unofficial memory-based answer keys for preliminary evaluation.

 

GATE 2026 First Shift (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM) Overview

The first shift on Feb 7 included AG, ES, GG, IN, MA, MN, TF, XE, and XL papers. Overall difficulty ranged from easy to moderate, with general aptitude sections reported slightly easier than technical sections.

  • IN Paper: Moderate; 18 NAT, 4 MSQ, 43 MCQs; average attempts ranged 45–55+; amplifier-based and control systems questions featured prominently.
  • XE Paper: Easy to moderate; fluid mechanics and diesel cycle questions were challenging; total attempts ranged 50–57.
  • XL Paper: Moderate; interdisciplinary questions; GA section was moderate.

 

Documents Required for GATE 2026 Exam

Candidates were instructed to carry the following to exam centres:

  • GATE 2026 hall ticket
  • Valid ID proof
  • Recent photograph (if photo on ID is outdated)
