The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 will be conducted on 7, 8, 14, and 15 February 2026. The national-level entrance examination will be organised in two shifts per day at designated test centres. Candidates appearing for the examination are required to carefully follow the exam-day instructions mentioned on the admit card to avoid last-minute issues at the centre.

 

GATE 2026 Exam Schedule, Shifts, and Reporting Time

The GATE 2026 examination will be held in both forenoon and afternoon sessions. Candidates must report well in advance to complete verification and seating formalities smoothly. The shift-wise schedule is outlined below for clarity:

  • Forenoon Shift: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Candidates are advised to reach the examination centre at least 90 minutes before the scheduled start time. Entry will not be permitted after the login window closes.

 

Documents and Essentials to Carry on GATE Exam Day

Before arriving at the exam centre, candidates must ensure that all mandatory documents are in place. These documents will be verified during entry and biometric checks. The following items are required on the exam day:

  • Printed GATE 2026 admit card on A4-size paper
  • Original valid photo ID proof, the same as uploaded during registration
  • Pen or pencil for rough work
  • Transparent water bottle

Candidates failing to present the admit card and valid ID will not be allowed to appear for the examination.

 

GATE 2026 Exam Hall Instructions and Conduct Rules

Inside the examination hall, candidates must strictly follow the instructions provided by invigilators and displayed on the computer screen. An on-screen calculator will be available for calculations during the test. A scribble pad will be provided for rough work, which must be returned to the invigilator after the exam. Candidates are not permitted to leave the exam hall before the test concludes. Any violation of exam rules or misconduct may lead to cancellation of candidature.

To maintain exam integrity, several items are not permitted inside the test centre. Candidates should avoid carrying unnecessary belongings. Prohibited items include:

  • Bags, wallets, or heavy ornaments

 

GATE 2026 Guidelines for PwD and Health-Related Cases

PwD candidates are allowed to use assistive devices after verification at the centre. Eligible candidates will receive one hour of compensatory time as per norms. Candidates with contagious illnesses must inform authorities in advance and carry a medical fitness certificate along with necessary precautions and medication.
