GATE 2026 Exam Begins 7 February; IIT Guwahati Releases Branch-wise Schedule. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 from 7 February 2026. The examination will be held across four days in multiple sessions for various engineering, science, and humanities papers. Candidates appearing for the postgraduate engineering entrance exam must carry their GATE 2026 admit card and a valid photo identity proof to the examination centre.

 

GATE 2026 Branch-wise Exam Dates and Shift Timings

The GATE 2026 examination will be conducted on 7 February, 8 February, 14 February, and 15 February 2026. Each day will include two examination shifts. Below is the complete branch-wise GATE 2026 schedule:

Candidates are advised to reach their examination centres at least 60 to 90 minutes before the reporting time to complete verification formalities.

 

GATE 2026 Admit Card and Exam Day Instructions

Candidates must download their admit cards from the GOAPS portal before the exam day. Entry to the examination hall will be allowed only with the admit card and valid identification proof. The examination authorities have issued strict instructions regarding prohibited items inside the exam centre. Candidates must follow these guidelines carefully to avoid disqualification.Items not allowed inside the exam centre include:

  • Mobile phones and smartwatches
  • Electronic calculators
  • Notes, books, or study materials
  • Bags or any electronic devices

Candidates will be provided rough sheets at the examination centre and must write their name and registration number before using them. Applicants are also advised to wear simple and comfortable clothing and strictly follow invigilator instructions.

 

GATE 2026 Admission and Result Importance

GATE scores are used for admission to postgraduate engineering programmes such as MTech and also for recruitment in several public sector undertakings. The exam is conducted annually in computer-based mode across multiple centres nationwide. Candidates are advised to regularly check official notifications for updates regarding result announcements and counselling schedules after the examination concludes.
