COMEDK 2026 Eligibility Criteria Released with Major Changes

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka has released the COMEDK UGET 2026 eligibility criteria on its official website comedk.org. Candidates planning to apply for the entrance examination must carefully check the updated eligibility conditions before filling out the application form.

The authorities have announced three major changes in the COMEDK 2026 eligibility criteria. Only candidates who fulfil all the prescribed requirements will be considered eligible for admission to participating engineering institutes. The COMEDK 2026 registration process will commence from 3 February 2026.

Changes Introduced in COMEDK 2026 Eligibility Criteria

COMEDK has revised certain academic and evaluation-related requirements for candidates appearing in the UGET 2026 examination. These changes are applicable from the current admission cycle. The major changes introduced in COMEDK 2026 eligibility criteria are explained below.

  • Until 2025, candidates were required to study Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with English as a compulsory subject in Class 12. From 2026 onwards, candidates can replace Chemistry with Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science, or Electronics as an optional subject.
  • Candidates must have passed all individual subjects, including optional or additional subjects, to be considered eligible.
  • Any candidate who secures ‘0’ (Zero) marks in the COMEDK UGET examination will not be assigned a rank.

Detailed COMEDK UGET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

As per the official notification, candidates who are Indian Citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) are eligible to appear for COMEDK UGET 2026.

The qualifying examination for admission to B.E./B.Tech programmes is Second PUC, Class 12, or an equivalent examination recognised by a State or Central Government authority. The last two years of study must include Physics, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology or Computer Science or Electronics as one optional subject.

General Merit candidates must have secured a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. For SC, ST, and OBC candidates of Karnataka, the minimum required aggregate is 40%. Candidates must pass each of these subjects individually.

Board and Marks Card Conditions

COMEDK has clarified that all subjects must be passed from a single recognised board. Marks cards issued by two different boards will not be accepted under any circumstances. For example, a candidate with Physics and Chemistry from one board and Mathematics from another board will be considered ineligible.

An attempt in the COMEDK UGET examination is sufficient to be included in the rank list. However, candidates scoring zero marks will not receive any rank, even if they appear for the test.

Diploma Candidates Not Eligible

The consortium has reiterated that diploma holders are not eligible to appear for the COMEDK UGET examination. There are no lateral entry admissions through COMEDK for engineering courses. Candidates are advised to review the eligibility criteria carefully before applying once the COMEDK 2026 registration begins on 3 February 2026.
