CLAT UG 2026 Eligibility Criteria, Age Limit, Marks Required

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) conducts the CLAT exam for admission to five-year integrated LL.B. programmes offered by participating NLUs across India. Before filling out the application form, candidates should carefully review the CLAT UG 2026 eligibility criteria related to education, marks, age, and nationality.

 

CLAT UG 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility conditions for CLAT UG 2026 are based on four main factors:

  • Educational Qualification
  • Minimum Marks Requirement
  • Age Limit
  • Nationality and Reservation Policy

 

1. Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have completed or be appearing in their Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognised board.
  • Students appearing for Class 12 in 2026 can also apply, but they must produce proof of passing at the time of admission.
  • There is no restriction on stream — Arts, Commerce, or Science students can apply.

 

2. Minimum Marks Required

Note: Candidates who fail to meet the minimum marks requirement during admission will be considered ineligible, even if they clear the CLAT exam.

 

3. CLAT UG 2026 Age Limit

  • There is no upper age limit for CLAT UG 2026.
  • The Bar Council of India (BCI) has removed the age restriction for law admissions.
  • This allows both school-going students and working professionals to apply if they meet other eligibility criteria.

 

4. Nationality Criteria

  • Indian citizens can apply for CLAT UG 2026.
  • NRI, PIO, OCI, and foreign nationals are also eligible under special categories at certain NLUs.
  • Such candidates may have to follow separate admission procedures or submit relevant documents such as passports or OCI cards.

 

Important Points to Remember

  • Candidates must produce Class 12 marksheets and certificates during counselling/admission.
  • The Consortium can cancel candidature in case of document discrepancies.
  • The medium of the CLAT exam is English only.
  • There is no age bar or limit on the number of attempts.

 

Course-Wise Eligibility Criteria for CLAT 2026

Admission through CLAT 2026 will depend on fulfilling the eligibility conditions prescribed by the Consortium of NLUs. The table below shows the detailed course-wise eligibility for all programmes offered through CLAT 2026.

• Completed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised board.• Minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST).• Must have passed all subjects.

BBA LL.B

• Passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board.• Minimum 45% marks (40% for reserved categories).• Must have passed all subjects.

B.Com LL.B

• Completed Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised board.• Minimum 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST).• Must have passed all subjects.

B.Sc LL.B

• Passed Class 12 (Science stream).• Must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Math/Biology.• Minimum 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST).

B.Tech LL.B

• Completed Class 12 (Science stream) with PCM subjects.• Minimum 45% marks (40% for reserved category).

LL.M (Postgraduate Programme)

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent).• Minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST).• Final-year students can also apply.

 

Important Instructions for CLAT 2026 Applicants

  • Students appearing in the final year of Class 12 are eligible if they submit proof of qualification at admission.
  • There is no upper age limit to apply for CLAT UG 2026.
  • All educational certificates and mark sheets must be issued by recognised boards/universities.
