CLAT Counselling 2026: First Merit List on January 7, Steps to Check

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) will release the CLAT Counselling 2026 first merit list on January 7, 2026. Candidates who have successfully registered for the counselling process can check the Round 1 seat allotment list on the official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The first allotment list will be published NLU-wise, and only registered candidates will be allowed to access their seat allocation status and proceed with the admission process. The counselling process is being conducted for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes for the 2026–27 academic session.

How to Check CLAT 2026 First Merit List?

Registered candidates can follow the steps below to view the Round 1 seat allotment list:

  • Visit the official website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in
  • Log in using the registered mobile number and password
  • Open the CLAT Counselling 2026 dashboard
  • View the Round 1 seat allotment result displayed on the screen
  • Download and save the allotment page for future reference

 

Seat Acceptance Options in CLAT Counselling 2026

Candidates allotted seats during counselling will be required to choose one of the following options within the prescribed deadline:

  • Freeze: The candidate accepts the allotted seat and does not wish to participate in further counselling rounds.
  • Float: The candidate accepts the seat but opts to be considered for higher-preference NLUs in subsequent rounds.
  • Exit: The candidate withdraws from the counselling process and will not participate in further admission rounds.

Candidates who fail to confirm their choice and complete fee payment within the stipulated time may lose their allotted seat.

 

Next Steps After Round 1 Allotment

Candidates confirming seats in Round 1 will remain eligible for subsequent rounds based on the option selected. Further merit lists will be released depending on seat availability, candidate preferences, and reservation policies followed by the participating NLUs.
