As the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2026) approaches, NALSAR University of Law (Hyderabad) has issued a major update to its reservation categories for candidates belonging to the SC-TL (Scheduled Caste – Telangana) group. Candidates who applied under SC-TL must revise their reservation category by 01-12-2025 (11:59 PM IST) in the official CLAT portal. This change affects both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) aspirants, and is intended to align seat allocation with the revised SC-TL sub-group divisions under the recent Telangana reservation reforms.
What Changed: SC-TL Sub-Groups and Seat Matrix Update?
In the official notice, NALSAR has declared that the SC-TL reservation category is now subdivided into three sub-groups: SC-TL (Group I), SC-TL (Group II) and SC-TL (Group III). Candidates must reference the Telangana State Rationalisation of Reservations of SC Act to identify which specific sub-group they belong to — as this determines their seat-category eligibility. This subdivision affects seat allocation across both UG and PG law programmes at NALSAR. The institute has also updated its overall seat matrix accordingly, which may impact cut-offs and reservation-based admissions.
What Candidates Need to Do — Step-by-Step?
All candidates who selected SC-TL in their CLAT 2026 application must follow the update procedure before the deadline:
- Log in to your account on the official CLAT portal.
- Click on the “Update SC-TL Reservation” button.
- From the drop-down list, select the correct sub-group (Group I / II / III) as applicable.
- Save your changes and download the confirmation page for records.
Failure to update by the deadline may lead to incorrect seat allocation or rejection of the reservation claim.
Important Dates & Exam Details
- Reservation Update Deadline: 01-12-2025, 11:59 PM IST
- CLAT 2026 Exam Date: 07-12-2025 (Single shift: 2 PM – 4 PM) for both UG and PG streams.
Applicants must also download the updated brochure of participating universities from the official CLAT portal to stay informed about other changes including seat matrix, exam centre, and eligibility.
Why This Update Matters?
The revision reflects changes in state-level reservation laws and affects how SC-TL (Telangana) seats are allocated at NALSAR. For candidates, selecting the correct sub-group ensures rightful consideration under reserved quota — a critical factor given the high competition in CLAT admissions. With many aspirants vying for limited seats, even small administrative errors can lead to disqualification or loss of reserved-seat benefit. This timely update allows candidates to correct their claim and avoid last-minute issues.
