CLAT 2026 Counselling Registration Process to End on December 27, as announced by the Consortium of National Law Universities. Candidates who qualified the CLAT examination must complete counselling registration within the deadline to remain eligible for admission to participating National Law Universities. The counselling registration window is a mandatory step in the CLAT admission process, and only registered candidates will be considered for seat allotment rounds scheduled in January 2026.

 

CLAT 2026 Counselling Registration Deadline and Key Details

The Consortium of NLUs will close the CLAT 2026 counselling registration window on December 27, 2025. Candidates who fail to complete registration by this date will not be considered for further admission rounds, irrespective of their CLAT rank. The counselling process includes multiple stages such as registration, fee payment, seat allotment, confirmation of seats, and institute reporting. Completion of registration confirms a candidate’s willingness to participate in the centralized admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes. As per the notified schedule, the first seat allotment list for CLAT 2026 will be released on January 7, 2026.

 

CLAT 2026 Seat Allotment Schedule and Admission Timeline

The counselling timeline outlines clear deadlines that candidates must follow after registration. Based on counselling registration data, seat allotment will be conducted in multiple rounds. Candidates whose names appear in the first allotment list will be required to either freeze or float their allotted seats between January 7 and January 15, 2026. Payment of the confirmation fee within this period is mandatory to retain the allotted seat. Failure to complete confirmation formalities within the prescribed timeline may result in forfeiture of the allotted seat, as per counselling rules.

 

Steps to Complete CLAT 2026 Counselling Registration

Candidates yet to complete the counselling registration process must ensure that all steps are followed carefully before the deadline. The registration process includes:

  • Logging in to the counselling portal using registered credentials
  • Filling in personal and academic details
  • Selecting preferred NLUs and programmes
  • Paying the counselling registration fee
  • Downloading and saving the completed counselling form

Each stage must be completed successfully to ensure participation in seat allotment rounds.

 

CLAT 2026 Counselling Registration Fee and Seat Availability

The CLAT 2026 counselling registration fee is INR 30,000 for General category candidates. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, BC, EWS, and PwD categories are required to pay INR 20,000. As per official data, a total of 3,213 seats are available for undergraduate law programmes, while 1,217 seats are offered across postgraduate law courses through the CLAT counselling process. Candidates are shortlisted for seat allotment rounds only after successful registration and verification of eligibility-related details.
