CHSE Odisha Introduces Plus 2 Improvement Exam from 2026

CHSE Odisha Introduces Improvement Exam for Plus 2 Students from 2026The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha has introduced a Plus 2 improvement examination system starting from the 2026 academic year. The new rule allows students who pass the Class 12 board exams to reappear in one subject to improve their marks after the declaration of results. The initiative aims to provide students with an opportunity to enhance their academic scores, especially for admission requirements in higher education institutions.

Odisha Plus 2 Improvement Exam 2026: Key Rules for Students

The improvement exam system has been approved by the CHSE examination committee and will be implemented immediately for students appearing in the current academic session. Under the new policy, students will be able to retake the exam in any one subject of their choice if they want to improve their final marks in the Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE). Important points about the new system include:

  • Students can reappear in one subject to improve their marks.
  • The option is available only for students who pass the main board exam.
  • Students who fail will not be eligible for the improvement test.
  • Such students can instead appear for the instant examination, conducted for failed candidates.

This system is similar to the improvement exam provision already followed by some national boards.

Application Timeline for CHSE Odisha Improvement Exam

CHSE has also outlined the timeline for applying and conducting the improvement examination. Students must submit their applications soon after the board results are announced. The expected schedule is as follows:

  • Application window: Within 15 days after Plus 2 result declaration
  • Improvement exam date: Within one month after results
  • Improvement result declaration: Within 60 days of the exam

This structured timeline ensures that students can quickly update their academic scores for college admissions.

Why CHSE Introduced the Improvement Exam System?

According to CHSE officials, the improvement exam has been introduced to address student concerns about missing admission cut-offs by small margins. Many students require minimum marks thresholds, such as 75% aggregate marks for admission to institutions like IITs, even after qualifying competitive exams. The new system provides them with an additional chance to improve their performance. The improvement exam will be conducted alongside the annual instant examination, which is already held every year after the main board results are announced.

Impact on Students and Higher Education Opportunities

The introduction of the improvement examination is expected to benefit students who narrowly miss their desired scores in board examinations. By allowing candidates to retake a single subject, the board aims to support better academic outcomes and expand opportunities for higher education. With the new rule coming into effect from 2026, CHSE Odisha students will now have an additional opportunity to improve their Class 12 board results and strengthen their eligibility for competitive admissions and university programmes.
