CBSE to Expand AI-Based Evaluation for 2026 Board Exams

CBSE will expand its AI-driven evaluation and digital checking system for the 2026 board exams, marking a major step towards error-free assessment. Today's date is 7 October 2025.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has confirmed that the next exam cycle will see broader implementation of AI-supported evaluation across regional centres. According to a senior CBSE official, the initiative aims to enhance accuracy, consistency, and transparency in the marking process.

CBSE AI-Based Evaluation 2026 Expansion Details

An official source shared that AI and on-screen marking tools have been tested in previous exam sessions with promising results. These trials have helped the Board analyse performance variations between theory and practical exams. During the 2024–25 academic session, CBSE used AI tools to compare internal and written exam marks, identifying inconsistencies across several schools.

Following this analysis, CBSE issued advisories to affiliated schools to maintain uniform internal assessment standards. This exercise marked the Board’s first large-scale application of AI technology for moderation and score analysis.

On-Screen Checking to Expand for 2026 Exams

For the 2026 CBSE board exams, the Board plans to increase digital answer-sheet evaluation. Teachers will assess scanned copies instead of physical answer scripts. The digital process will help in cross-verification and ensure quicker moderation.

A dedicated digital evaluation and AI centre has already been established in Dwarka, Delhi, where pilot runs were successfully conducted. Teacher training for on-screen evaluation is expected to begin early next year before the full rollout of the system.

Human Oversight to Remain Integral

A CBSE official clarified that human evaluators will continue to play a central role. The AI-based system is designed to support teachers by identifying discrepancies, providing data insights, and improving moderation. The combination of human judgment and AI analytics is expected to make the 2026 evaluation process faster, more transparent, and more reliable.
