The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to introduce in-school coaching for competitive exams like JEE Main, NEET-UG, and CUET-UG. Today's date is 4 October 2025. This initiative aims to reduce students’ reliance on private coaching centres.
CBSE Introduces “Centres for Advanced Studies”
CBSE has proposed setting up “Centres for Advanced Studies” in its affiliated schools. These centres will offer training for entrance exams alongside regular board studies. Students will get guidance in higher-level topics, problem-solving, and mock tests conducted by trained teachers.
The move comes as the Ministry of Education reviews whether JEE and NEET exams align with Class 12 syllabi. The review also looks at whether the current exam difficulty encourages students to join coaching institutes.
Aim to Reduce Dependence on Private Coaching
The main objective of this initiative is to allow students to prepare for competitive exams without skipping school. Currently, many students attend coaching centres full-time, missing regular classes. Under this proposal, students will benefit from structured support within school hours.
Implementation and Timeline
The plan is still under discussion. Details such as the implementation model, number of pilot schools, and timelines are yet to be finalised. If approved, the scheme could roll out in phases, beginning with select CBSE-affiliated schools in major cities.
CBSE officials have emphasised that the initiative will complement regular studies, ensuring students do not face extra academic pressure while preparing for competitive exams.
