Clarification on Second Board Examination Policy
CBSE has also issued a clarification regarding the Class 10 second board examination policy effective from 2026:
- Mandatory First Exam: All students must appear in the first board examination.
- Improvement Opportunity: Students who pass may improve scores in up to three subjects, including Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and languages.
- Essential Repeat Category: Students absent in three or more subjects in the first exam will not be eligible for the second board exam and must reappear in the main exam next year.
- Compartment Category: Students placed under “Compartment” can appear in the second exam.
- No Additional Subjects: Stand-alone additional subjects are not permitted after passing Class 10.
With strict adherence to examination guidelines and entry rules, CBSE aims to ensure a fair and smooth conduct of the 2026 board examinations across all centres.
