A parliamentary panel will review the CBSE's on-screen marking scheme on June 2, 2026, amid student complaints about technical issues and low marks.
In a significant move, a parliamentary panel has summoned officials from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to address concerns regarding the on-screen marking (OSM) system implemented for the Class 12 examinations. The meeting is scheduled for June 2, 2026, and comes in response to numerous complaints from students and parents about technical glitches and the awarding of unexpectedly low marks.
The parliamentary panel's review will involve discussions with key CBSE officials, including School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh. They will evaluate the effectiveness of the OSM system and its impact on students' results. This review is particularly crucial as it follows a wave of dissatisfaction among students who have faced issues related to the new marking scheme.
CBSE Class 12 OSM: Key Issues Raised
Students and parents have raised several concerns regarding the OSM system, primarily focusing on:
- Technical glitches in the revaluation portal.
- Lower than expected marks being awarded to students.
- Challenges in the implementation of the three-language formula for Classes 9 and 10.
This scrutiny comes at a time when the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has taken steps to enhance the payment gateway for post-examination services, including re-evaluation and obtaining photocopies of answer sheets.
Stability of the CBSE Revaluation Portal
Following the complaints, a team of experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has been tasked with investigating the issues plaguing the CBSE revaluation portal. The IIT Madras Director, V Kamakoti, confirmed that the team has begun examining the recent technical failures, particularly concerning payment issues and answer sheet uploads. Encouragingly, the portal has reportedly remained stable for over 72 hours, suggesting progress in resolving these issues.
Concerns Over OSM Vulnerabilities
Adding to the controversy, a 19-year-old cybersecurity researcher, Nisarga Adhikary, has drawn attention to significant vulnerabilities within the CBSE's OSM portal. Adhikary reported these flaws to the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) back in February. His findings have sparked discussions about the security and reliability of the marking system, raising further questions about the integrity of the examination process.
CBSE Class 12 Marking Scheme and Answer Key Availability
In light of the ongoing concerns, the CBSE has released the marking scheme and answer key for the Class 12 examinations. Students can access these resources on the official CBSE website at cbse.gov.in. This release is intended to assist students in verifying their results against the answer sheets they submitted.
