CBSE Board Exams 2026: Impact on JEE Main & NEET Preparation

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the tentative datesheet for Class 10 and 12 board exams 2026. Both examinations are scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026. The first phase of Class 10 exams will conclude on March 9, while Class 12 exams will end on April 9, 2026. This year, the CBSE Class 12 exams ran from February 15 to April 4, 2025, while Class 10 concluded by mid-March. Post-board exam gaps previously allowed students sufficient time to prepare for competitive exams such as JEE Main, CUET-UG, and NEET-UG.

Potential Clash with JEE Main and NEET UG

• JEE Main 2026 Session 2: Expected around early April, overlapping with the final days of CBSE Class 12 exams.
• NEET UG 2026: Likely scheduled for early May, giving roughly four weeks for preparation after boards.

Experts and educators have expressed concerns that this short window could create additional pressure on students. Transitioning from board exam preparation to focused competitive exam preparation may be challenging, particularly for Class 12 students targeting medical and engineering streams.

Views of Students, Parents, and Teachers

• Students and Parents: Short gaps between exams may increase stress levels and reduce dedicated preparation time.
• Coaching Institutes: Adjustments may be required in crash courses and revision schedules to help students cope with condensed preparation periods.
• Teachers’ Advice: Early completion of core revision is recommended so that the post-board exam window can be effectively used for mock tests, practice papers, and quick recaps.
