The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed all affiliated schools to share Class 11 registration numbers with students applying for JEE Main 2026. The move comes after several students and parents complained that schools were not providing these details, which are mandatory for completing the JEE application process.
CBSE Issues Circular Following Student Complaints
According to the latest CBSE notice, numerous grievances were received from Class 12 students preparing for JEE Main 2026, who claimed that their schools had withheld Class 11 registration numbers. Without these details, many students were unable to fill out the JEE application form. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the JEE Main exam, has made the Class 11 registration number a mandatory field in the online application. To ensure smooth registration, CBSE has urged all affiliated institutions to act immediately and share the required information with their students.
JEE Main 2026 Registration Open Till November 19
The JEE Main 2026 registration process began on November 6, 2025, on the official website — jeemain.nta.ac.in. The last date to apply is November 19, 2025. CBSE has clarified that without the Class 11 registration number, candidates will not be able to submit their forms successfully.
CBSE officials stated that this requirement was mentioned earlier in the Board’s circular dated October 30, 2025, which also outlined the Class 10 and Class 12 Board Exam date sheet. Despite that, the Board received multiple complaints indicating that several schools had not yet provided the registration numbers to eligible candidates.
CBSE Circular Highlights School Responsibility
In its official communication, the Board reiterated the importance of compliance by schools. The circular reads: “It was mentioned that NTA will require the registration number of Class XI students to be filled in the JEE (Main) application. Accordingly, all schools are requested to provide the registration number of Class XI to their students applying for JEE (Main).” The circular further warns that non-compliance will be viewed seriously. The Board emphasized that schools must ensure all JEE applicants receive their Class 11 registration numbers without delay, allowing them to complete the NTA form submission process on time.
Purpose of Registration Number Requirement
The Class 11 registration number serves as an important link between a student’s school academic record and their JEE Main application. This helps in verifying student identity, maintaining consistency across academic data, and avoiding scheduling conflicts between JEE Main and board exams. Education authorities have noted that this system also minimizes data mismatches and ensures accurate verification during counselling and admission processes.
