The CAT 2025 Slot 2 examination concluded smoothly in the afternoon shift across centres nationwide. Based on early student feedback, the overall difficulty level remained moderate, but the Quantitative Ability section turned out to be the biggest challenge for most candidates. A large number of aspirants stated that Quant in Slot 2 matched the difficulty standards of CAT 2022 and CAT 2023, making it the toughest among all three sections. This shift in difficulty is likely to influence section-wise cut-offs and percentile normalisation.
Quantitative Ability Dominates the Difficulty Curve
The Quantitative Ability section in CAT 2025 Slot 2 received the strongest reaction from candidates due to its time-consuming nature and lengthy calculations. While the syllabus coverage remained standard, the question framing increased complexity. Students reported:
- Heavy dominance of Arithmetic and Algebra
- Limited presence of Geometry and Number System
- Multiple questions required multi-step calculations
- Accuracy became more critical than speed
Several repeat candidates compared the section directly to CAT 2022–23 Quant standards, saying it demanded deeper conceptual clarity and higher calculation stamina.
VARC Maintained Moderate Difficulty
The VARC section in CAT 2025 Slot 2 was rated as moderate and balanced. Reading Comprehension passages were mostly of average length with familiar themes, making them readable under time pressure.
- Vocabulary questions remained standard
- Para-jumbles and sentence placement questions were moderately tricky
- Attempt levels stayed stable for most candidates
Students targeting 95 percentile and above found VARC to be the stabilising section compared to Quant.
DILR Remained Manageable but Time-Intensive
The DILR section fell in the moderate to slightly difficult range. Most candidates reported that 2 to 3 sets were solvable with proper selection, while the remaining required deeper logical structuring.
- Arrangement and caselet-based sets dominated
- Calculations were simpler than Quant
- Time management remained the main challenge
Impact on Expected Cut-Off Trends
With Quant emerging as the toughest section, experts expect sectional cut-offs in Quant to soften slightly, while VARC and DILR cut-offs may remain stable. However, the overall percentile equation will depend on normalisation across all slots. Candidates targeting top IIMs such as IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta are advised to factor in the higher Quant difficulty while estimating expected percentiles.
