CAT 2025 Slot 1: Riyan Shares Insights on VARC, DILR & QA Difficulty

Riyan, a candidate appearing for his second CAT attempt, shared his experience of Slot 1 of CAT 2025. He noted that the exam felt easier compared to his first attempt, largely due to better preparation and familiarity with the test pattern. While VARC remained manageable, DILR and QA sections were perceived as challenging, requiring strategic time management. Riyan is targeting IIM Ahmedabad and hopes his performance in this slot aligns with his goal.

VARC Section: Manageable But Requires Focus

According to Riyan, the VARC section in Slot 1 had a similar level of difficulty as previous years, with a mix of reading comprehension, para-jumbles, and critical reasoning questions. He mentioned that careful reading and understanding of passages helped him maintain pace, though the dual-tone and micro-comprehension questions required extra attention.

DILR Section: Challenging but Navigable

The Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) section was Riyan’s most difficult segment. He highlighted puzzles such as double-layer Venn diagrams, pentagonal seating, and mixed case sets, which demanded precision and strong analytical skills. Riyan noted that time management and structured approach were key to tackling these problems efficiently.

Quant Section: Difficulty Persists

Riyan described the Quantitative Aptitude (QA) section as difficult, especially with arithmetic, algebra, and coordinate geometry-based questions. He emphasized that prior practice on mixed-concept problems and speed drills helped him attempt the questions confidently, even under time pressure.

Targeting IIM Ahmedabad

Riyan is optimistic about achieving a high percentile, attributing his improvement to consistent preparation and prior exam experience. He aims to convert his second attempt into a successful result that could secure a seat at IIM Ahmedabad, citing his enhanced strategy and focus during Slot 1.
