CAT 2025 Slot 1: First-Time Candidate Appears After 7 Days Prep

The CAT 2025 Slot 1 examination witnessed an interesting first-time attempt by a recent graduate from Haryana, who appeared for the exam with just 7 days of focused preparation. The candidate, identified as Jhanvi, described the experience as highly nerve-racking yet surprisingly manageable, calling the paper an “open-book type” test in parts. This was Jhanvi’s first CAT attempt, and it came shortly after the completion of graduation. At present, the candidate is pursuing a logistics-focused professional course and decided to attempt CAT 2025 primarily to assess real-time competition and exam pressure.

CAT 2025 Slot 1 Candidate Background and Academic Profile

Before discussing the exam experience, it is important to understand the academic and preparatory background of the candidate. Jhanvi completed graduation in 2025 and is currently enrolled in a logistics and supply chain certification course. With no formal long-term CAT coaching, the preparation window was limited to 1 week of basic revision. The decision to appear for CAT was taken at short notice, primarily to understand the actual exam environment, time pressure, and sectional difficulty. According to the student, the goal was not immediate conversion but hands-on exposure to the real test format.

Nervousness and “Open Book” Experience in CAT 2025 Slot 1

The candidate reported being extremely nervous before the exam, mainly due to limited preparation time and the reputation of CAT as one of the toughest entrance tests in India. However, during the paper, certain sections—especially VARC and select QA problems—felt structured enough to resemble an open-reference mindset, where logical application mattered more than memorized formulas. Despite the manageable feel of some questions, the time pressure across all sections remained intense. The DILR section was described as mentally exhausting, particularly for a first-time test taker without prolonged mock practice.

Post-Exam Plan and Preparation Strategy Going Forward

Following the Slot 1 attempt, Jhanvi has now formally started a structured preparation cycle for future management entrances, with a stronger focus on logical reasoning, data interpretation, and speed-based quantitative practice. The logistics course currently being pursued is also helping strengthen analytical thinking and operational problem-solving skills, which are critical for competitive exams. The student shared that the CAT 2025 Slot 1 attempt served as a diagnostic benchmark, highlighting clear gaps in time management, question selection, and mental stamina. These insights are now being used to build a more disciplined and long-term preparation strategy.

Growing Trend of First-Time Experimental CAT Attempts

Education experts observe that a rising number of fresh graduates are now attempting CAT as a trial run, even with minimal preparation, purely to understand real exam dynamics. Such attempts help candidates align future preparation with actual exam difficulty rather than coaching-based assumptions. Jhanvi’s experience reflects this shifting mindset, where the first CAT attempt is increasingly being treated as a learning phase rather than a high-stakes do-or-die attempt.
