CAT 2025 Slot 1 Analysis: Paper Tougher Than 2024, Section Review

The CAT 2025 Slot 1 examination was reported to be more difficult in comparison to CAT 2024, as per early student reactions. While the paper followed the usual format, candidates faced higher time pressure and comparatively trickier question selection, especially in Quantitative Ability and DILR. Overall feedback indicates that the paper demanded strong conceptual clarity, quick decision-making, and strict time management to secure high attempts.

CAT 2025 Slot 1 Overall Difficulty Level

In contrast to last year, CAT 2025 Slot 1 was rated moderately difficult to difficult by most candidates. Students felt that the distribution of approachable questions was uneven, making it hard to maximize attempts smoothly. Many test-takers also mentioned that the paper required more calculation effort and logical structuring than CAT 2024, particularly in the middle half of the exam.

CAT 2025 Slot 1 Section-Wise Difficulty and Good Attempts

A closer sectional breakdown shows that no section could be termed scoring in an absolute sense. Each segment demanded careful question selection. Before looking at the numbers, it is important to note that attempts were largely dependent on how effectively candidates managed time between solvable and lengthy questions. Random attempts without strategy proved risky.

VRC Performance Review

The VRC section was rated moderate, with lengthy reading comprehension passages and inference-based questions. While the questions were not ambiguous, time consumption was higher than expected. Students with strong reading speed still managed 20–25 safe attempts, but accuracy depended on careful reading.

DILR Performance Review

The DILR section emerged as one of the most time-intensive parts of the paper. Many sets required multi-layered reasoning and heavy calculations, limiting selection flexibility. On average, 9 attempts are being seen as a balanced score in this section.

QA Performance Review

The Quantitative Ability section was widely reported as difficult, with a clear emphasis on problem-solving depth rather than speed. Arithmetic and algebra questions involved longer steps, and smart short-cut approaches were limited. 12 good attempts are being considered competitive under standard normalization.

Comparison With CAT 2024

Compared to CAT 2024, the CAT 2025 Slot 1 paper was tougher in both length and complexity. Last year’s exam offered more direct questions in QA and quicker DILR sets. In contrast, CAT 2025 demanded deeper engagement per question, making time optimization the primary challenge. Several candidates who appeared in both cycles stated that CAT 2024 allowed smoother section transitions, while CAT 2025 required frequent re-evaluation of question selection strategy.

Student Experience From Slot 1

A first-time candidate from Jhansi, who prepared for nearly 1 week, shared that initial nervousness increased once the actual difficulty of the paper became clear. Despite completing graduation and currently pursuing a logistics course, the student described the paper as mentally exhausting due to continuous multi-step reasoning.
