CAT 2025 Sectional Time Management Tips for 99%ile Success

Effective sectional time management is crucial for CAT 2025 aspirants. Unlike other competitive exams, CAT has strict sectional time limits—40 minutes per section for Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Aptitude (QA). PwD candidates get 53 minutes and 20 seconds per section. Managing time wisely can significantly improve accuracy, confidence, and percentile.

VARC Section Time Management Tips

The VARC section of CAT Exam has 24 questions with a mix of Verbal Ability (8 questions) and Reading Comprehension (16 questions).

  • Quickly scan all questions before attempting.
  • Prioritize easy questions first to build confidence.
  • Allocate time separately for VA and RC based on strengths.
  • Use elimination techniques for grammar and context-based questions.
  • Develop skimming strategies to quickly capture main ideas in passages.
  • Summarize passages mentally to answer faster and accurately.

DILR Section Time Management Tips

The DILR section contains Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning questions. Candidates get 40 minutes to solve 20 questions.

  • Attempt non-MCQs first, as they carry no negative marking.
  • Skip difficult questions and return if time permits.
  • Focus on LR questions first, as they are typically quicker than DI.
  • Avoid spending excessive time on complex DI sets to maintain pace.

QA Section Time Management Tips

Quantitative Aptitude (QA) has 22 questions to be solved in 40 minutes, often requiring calculations.

  • Solve simple questions first, then move to complex ones.
  • Limit time per question: less than 2 minutes on average.
  • Use shortcut methods wherever possible.
  • Flag time-consuming questions and revisit if time allows.
  • Stick to a strict time allocation to attempt all questions.

General CAT Exam Time Management Tips

  • Start with questions you are confident about to build momentum.
  • Flag difficult questions instead of getting stuck.
  • Divide total section time into mini-goals for question types.
  • Stay calm to avoid panic, which can harm time management.
  • Use remaining time for review before submitting.

Why Sectional Time Management Matters?

  • Ensures completion of all sections and questions, boosting scoring potential.
  • Minimizes careless errors by allotting proper time per question.
  • Allows a quick review, enhancing accuracy.
  • Builds confidence as candidates progress through sections efficiently.
