On 25 November 2025, the exam authority reiterated that the normalisation system helps evaluate every candidate on a common scale. This is important as each slot contains different sets of questions with varied difficulty levels.

CAT 2025 Score Calculation Process for All Slots

CAT 2025 score calculation begins with the preparation of raw scores for every candidate. After this, the authority performs a normalisation process to remove any advantage or disadvantage caused by slot difficulty. This results in a scaled score, which is later used for percentile calculation.

The process ensures that candidates from Slot 1, Slot 2, and Slot 3 are assessed on an equal platform. The scaled score formula applies individually to VARC, DILR, and Quantitative Aptitude, and the same methodology is followed across all sections.

What Is Scaled Score in CAT 2025?

Scaled score in CAT refers to the score obtained after adjusting the raw marks based on the overall performance of candidates across all three slots. Since CAT shifted to a three-slot pattern in 2020, this modified scaled score method has been used for preparing results.

This method ensures that candidates from a more difficult slot are not at a disadvantage. The scaled score is derived after comparing slot-wise averages, standard deviations, and top-scoring candidates.

Slot-Wise Scaled CAT Score Calculation Method

The authority calculates the scaled score for each slot through eight steps. These steps involve determining the mean (M), standard deviation (SD) and top 0.1% performance averages for each slot.

Steps Used for Scaled Score Calculation

1. The authority calculates the Mean (M1) and SD (S1) of raw QA scores from the morning session.The value G1 = M1 + S1 is computed.
2. The Mean (M2) and SD (S2) of QA raw scores from the afternoon session are calculated.The value G2 = M2 + S2 is computed.
3. The Mean (M3) and SD (S3) of QA raw scores from the evening session are determined.The value G3 = M3 + S3 is computed.
4. The overall Mean (M) and overall SD (S) of QA raw scores across all three sessions are calculated.The value G = M + S is computed.
5. The authority calculates the Mean raw score of the top 0.1% candidates from each slot:
   • Morning: M1₀.₁
   • Afternoon: M2₀.₁
   • Evening: M3₀.₁
6. The Mean raw score of the top 0.1% candidates across all sessions is calculated as M₀.₁.

Final Scaled Score Formula

The scaled score varies depending on the candidate’s slot:

For a candidate in morning slot with raw score R:

r = [(R − G1) × (M₀.₁ − G) / (M1₀.₁ − G1)] + G

For a candidate in afternoon slot:

r = [(R − G2) × (M₀.₁ − G) / (M2₀.₁ − G2)] + G

For a candidate in evening slot:

r = [(R − G3) × (M₀.₁ − G) / (M3₀.₁ − G3)] + G

If the scaled score exceeds 100, it is rounded down to 100.
